Assignment: Research Methods – The Proposal Related Course learning outcome 1. Identify research methods and describe the scientific research process. 2. Understand the concepts and methodologies of research in the field of health and environmental science. 3. Apply quantitative and qualitative methodologies in an appropriate manner in specific situations. 4. Choose and use the appropriate computer applications in research. 5. Assess how to apply the basic aspects of research processes to plan and execute research proposals and projects. 6. Compose a viable and practical research program, which could form the basis of a senior project. 

Dear Students: Each of you will prepare a research proposal during the course of this semester in partial fulfilment of the requirements for Research Methods. The following guidelines are intended to help you write your Research Proposal. 

A. Instructions You are assigned to prepare a research proposal using a design of your choice. Using relevant databases, find sources (books, journals, conference papers, and the internet) to review current literature on your topic. Your proposal must be original work, and submitted by the deadline posted on BlackBoard. All projects (Text and PowerPoint) should be submitted on BlackBoard and include: 

1- The final draft of the Proposal, to include the research data collection tool/ instrument (e.g.: test tools, 

questionnaire or interview or observation checklist. ...etc.) 








2- The final draft of your PowerPoint presentation 

Due Date: Part 1 Introduction, Statement of the Problem, Research Question(s), Hypotheses) Part 2 Literature Review (15 references minimum) Note: When you submit Part 2, you MUST include the Cover page, Table of Content and Part 1!) Part 3 Methods Section (to include Sample, Data Collection, Variables, Data Analysis) Note: When you submit Part 3, you MUST include the Cover page, Table of Content and Part 1, & 2 (in other words, you should submit the entire proposal!) 

Please note that the shape, content, language, structure, organization and the format of your proposal report will be taken into consideration when evaluating your final draft of the proposal. We highly recommend you consider the quality of your research proposal in order to increase your grade. The Format should include the following: 

Font 12 Pt and Line Spacing – Single! 

B. Proposal Outline: 

The Proposal structure should include the following: 1. Cover page with your names, project name, etc. 2. Abstract (250 word max) 3. Table of content and page number 4. Introduction including the statement of the problem/ significance of your study (2 pages max, 1000-1500 words) 5. General objective, specific objectives, research questions, and hypothesis 6. Literature Review for your research (2 pages max) 7. Methods (study design, settings, population, sample, data collection techniques, etc.). (500-1000 words

a. Types of variables for your project b. Data collection procedure / steps / stages for data collection 8. References: at least 15 reference (APA style) 9. Appendix: codebook, data collection tool/ instrument (Questionnaire or interview or observation checklist, etc.) or 

any supporting document
