Next, I wanted to share some
helpful advice about your Module 4 Assignment. This list should cover some of
the common questions I've received. I hope it helps as you write the paper!
The cover page should be an APA
style Title Page (just like you did for the Empirical Article and will do for
the final Signature Assignment).
The bullets points on the
assignment description are just my way of encouraging you to write clearly and
accurately. When we address parents or a neighbor (or someone not in
education), we force ourselves to break down the technical language into lay
terminology, while still being accurate. You do not need to address these
specifically in the writing, unless that helps you (i.e., if you structure it
like a formal letter to a parent, that might help you feel like you’ve been
clear).
When you interpret your school's
data, you won't be able to say much beyond
what is given – you can use the school demographics to help you paint
the picture of the context and then describe the data (just the facts). As
researchers, we avoid judgment because we don’t know more about the school than
what is given. In other words, avoid saying "This is a bad school because
..." or "The kids in this school can't do math." These are
judgment statements. Instead, present the data and then draw a conclusion
(maybe say "struggle with" or "scored low on" or the
opposite if scores are good!).
As an APA paper, you will need to
reference the website. Just try your best! I find the APA manual to be less
helpful for these non-traditional sources, so I recommend using the information
from the Purdue OWL website and follow the instructions for referencing “data
sets”: https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/apa_style/apa_formatting_and_style_guide/reference_list_electronic_sources.html
Within the paper, I would recommend
citing the website in a few places. I tend to encourage the “bookend” approach
to citing – in other words, as you open the paper, you might indicate where all
of the data come from and cite there; by the end of the paper, you might remind
the reader that all of the information came from the website and cite there.
Then, within sections where you give specific data, it is a good idea to again
cite those (just once in the general paragraph about specific data is
sufficient). So, it’s a balance of not citing the same website TONS of times
;-) but still reminding the reader where the data came from … hope that helps!
In the end, so long as you are clear and cite it at least once in the paper and
include a reference section, you are good to go! The rest is stylistic
preference!
The data you present should be in
narrative form, not in chart form. Please practice interpreting the data in your
own words and trying your best to communicate the data clearly in your writing.
The 5 page paper can include the
Title Page and Reference Page, so long as you've covered all the requirements
listed on the rubric
The school can be a charter school
(charter schools in CA are public!) and you can pick elementary, junior HS, or
high school
I really look forward to reading
these! Have fun being a data-detective!
Assignment: Assessment Project Description: InIf IIWhat You
will write a paper (approximately 5 pages) describing the assessment data for a
school of your choice in LAUSD, using the data available via the Ed-Data
website: https://www.ed-data.orgi The paper must include a description of the
name, location, and demographic information of the school students (i.e.,
describing English Learners, students who qualify for Free and Reduced Meals,
Average Class Size, etc.). Then you will review the performance data about the
school, including the overall CAASP English Language Arts data and Mathematics
data. Then, select 2 sub-groups of students and explain their ELA and
Mathematics test data. You must cite where the data come from. Write your paper
using principles of assessment and testing presented in class and in your text,
while keeping the following questions in mind: you were a parent interested in
attending this school, what do you notice about its diversity? do you notice
about its ELA performance? What do you notice about its math performance? If
your child had special needs (i.e., disability, language learner), what do you
notice about the school's ability to meet the needs of your child? IIIBased on
the data, would you recommend this school to a neighbor? Why or why not? You
should write your paper in APA style with a cover page and reference section
(about 5 pages total). Submission See course schedule details: Purpose of this
This activity serves at least two purposes. First, it will give you practical
experience in finding and activity: evaluating assessment data. Second, it will
give you practice in communicating clearly about assessment data. Grading
Rubric: See next page. The final paper is worth 20 points.

international schools aim to provide
education in three major features. First Arabic, because the national language
of the country is Arabic also some of the courses taught in the school. 2nd is British, English is an international language so school intend to
teach students curriculum in English so the student will be able to achieve
international standers of modern education. The third important educational
feature is giving the education of Islam. The institute believes that the
children who brought up in Islamic environments will make them a better Muslim
and their Islamic roots will be strong and
the long-term success depends on the
environment in which student grow up in first few
years of his life (international-schools-database.com, 2019) . The goal of the
school is provide outstanding education to the children in the first five year
of his educational life because it is the point where student start to observe
different thing about the world and the techniques of learning that is why
positive learning and providing opportunities that can improve student’s
education is important for his social, physical, emotional and cognitive
development.
The classes in
school are designed using the latest technology. The smart classrooms allow more communication between
teacher and student and with the available equipment’s teacher can give lesson
by using DVD, VHS, PowerPoint presentations and so on this latest technology is
teaching get the visual attention of the students and increase their interest
in learning and is easy to remember. For the English accent practice school has
arranged native teachers of English
because in starting year it is important to develop the right accent. The curriculum in school is not local but
implements the national curriculum of England. They provide students number of
benefits other than education like counseling
and help regarding other mental and physical issues and after class work, they arrange a session to help students doing their homework and guide about
things they find it hard to understand.
Diveristy in School
The school
seems to have a good reputation and their learning methods are impressive. The
most attention-worthy feature of the
school is that it gives education according to the latest educational standers.
The classes are wide and have all the facilities
that a student could need while learning. There are students from different
backgrounds and also natives. The environment of the school is very diverse and will not put a foreign school in isolation while choosing a school; the biggest concern of the parents are environment and
education quality of the school (Ahmar & Elyas, 2014) .
Choosing a good school is hard because apparently all
schools drag about quality education, and being economical.
To avoid choosing the wrong school, it is
important for the parents to get the
review from those who had experience with the concerned
institute which is not hard to get because these days people use internet
website to post their reviews (Amani & Al-Salouli, 2013) . While checking the reviews, most of the parents were satisfied
with school performance and its environment. There were some negative reviews
too which can be discussed with the school authorities and their solutions if
they exist Further, it is important to check the overall examination score of
the school (Ming-Te & Holcomb, 2010) .
ELA Performance
After detailed research, it is
found out that the school provides
exceptional English language training. The schools believe in providing an
opportunity to hear and understand a clear accent to the students. What
students learn at the age of 3 to 9 stays
with them forever. Since the native
language of the country is Arabic children hear
it everywhere, they can speak it frequently and have developed the Arabic
accent from the very start. A study has proven that a kid in the age of 3 to 12
can learn as much as 5-6 different languages. To
meet the requirements of the modern world, it is important for schools to give the student a proper knowledge of
English (Khalid, 2014) .
In concern school, the British English language has strong roots. In school, the subjects that are in the English language are taught
by instructors who are native English. Their accent can have a positive effect
on students hearing and understanding English because students at a young age happened to imitate their teachers.
For the higher class, the teachers are
highly qualified by using different teaching styles and techniques the stuff
makes English learning more effective and
easier for the students (Heba, 2015) .
The performance
of the school in providing the language with an accent is good on the other hand they had eliminated the activities
lie musicology which is the part of British curriculum and instead add Islamic
features like Quran, Tajweed and fiqh. In after-school
clubs, there is an opportunity for the students to learn art and crafts; it is a refreshing
and yet creative activity for students to learn about different things related
to art.
Math Performance
Math is
considered to be a challenging subject
for the students. Many find it hard and do not study which can end up having
bad grades in Math. In school, the
performance regarding math is quite good. the teachers are for the math are
good at their work and the school has
provided facilities for the betterment in enhancing knowledge. It is hard to
access the performance of student regarding mathematics due to confidentiality
issue, but with the overall result, it can be observed that under the concerned school students are doing good in
mathematics (Abdullah, 2010) .
The institute has implemented the national curriculum of England. According to
this framework, there are 3 stages
corresponding to the starting years of education. The curriculum framework focuses
on basic principles, patterns, functions, systems and relationships that students can use in solving mathematical
equations. The focused areas in the curriculum
are Numbers, Algebra, Geometry, Measure, handling data and problem-solving. These are the main strands and
are divided to further 3 sub-strands. The
Cambridge mathematics curriculum provides a framework
for a strong foundation in order to have command on the further stages of
education such as Cambridge IGCSE (Cambriged, 2019) .
Special needs of the students
The school has
provided facilities for the students who are facing disabilities. There are
students who find it difficult to learn instead of believing that they are weak
students; it is important to find out if
they have any mental or physical
disability. Some student happened to take
more time in understanding and find it hard to remember lessons. There is a possibility that they are suffering from
Dyslexia. It is a neurologically based
disorder among individuals. It is a disability in which it is hard for the
student to understand literacy skills, vocabulary, spellings, reading, writing
and maths. To address this issue school,
provide students assistance, so they
learn as effectively as other students. also, for academic giddiness, emotional
and psychological care school provide student counseling.
Students can face stress and depression while studying
and at such a young age it is hard to
describe their issue to the elders.
Having student counseling in school is somehow relieving for
parents they can be less worried about the mental stress student can face in school because if something like that
happened school has qualified staff to address it. Also, for the student who needs extra assistance from their teacher can come to the after-school club where they
provide assistance in reading, writing, revision and homework
Recommendations
The curriculum
and environment of the school are very
satisfying and parents will ultimately
choose it for their children. I will definitely recommend this school to neighbour and friends. It is the basic right of
every child to get a quality education and after researching about the features of
this school, one can find it goo in all
the aspects. The staff is highly qualified; the
classes are wide and beautifully furnished plus the school focus on both modern
and traditional education.
Basic knowledge
of the religion is part of the curriculum
which makes it really beneficial for the
students. The education is mixed with British standards and Arab values making
it beneficial for the present and the future of the student. But on the other
hand, the limitation in choosing this school is its high fees. It could be hard
for some parents to enrol their children
in this school. other than that, the overall school features are good enough for the
parents to consider.
