The genre of “Role of Thunder and Hear my Cry”
The Novel Role of Thunder and Hear my Cry is written by Mildred Taylor. It is based on the historical real life of African American living in Mississippi. Old customs, rituals of family life, interaction with them are clearly mentioned in the novel. The main character of the novel is a nine-year girl, Cassie Logan, who narrates her growing experience in white people. Her family was living in a miserable condition from many generations. People from any age group can enjoy reading this novel. This novel is an inspirational story of a black family who fights together to survive their piece of ground. The girl believed that everyone should be treated equally. She questioned herself that why the white Americans let them lives their life freely. She observed negativity around her and faces many difficulties in her life.
In this novel, the Black children showed their disapproval to accept the unjust act of the bus driver who splatters mud on them. They showed their disapproval that they would not read the old books of the white students and harmed by them. They spoke for their individual rights before their teachers and guardians. The novel gives a lesson of collective family bonding and fights for your rights. Young children will get motivation from this novel. Social discrimination and human injustice are highlighted in this novel that how the black people are snatched away from their rights of living legally, socially and morally. The story of the novel revolved around social inequity. The writer tells us that we should not accept the class system that one is higher and the other class is lower in status. The novel is overall a good approach to all age groups to teach them the importance of family bond, their collective efforts and rejection of status quo.
